Mountain Province

Mountain Province is the traditional home of the Bontoc Igorots. Its best-kept secret is Sagada, an astonishingly beautiful community of pine forest mist-covered slopes, stonewalled terraces, limestone outcrops, burial cave and tribal culture. Its famous hanging coffins can be found in nearby cliffs. The road to the capital of Bontoc features dense forest and terraces to rice and vegetables. The Bontoc Museum has excellent cultural collection. Other attractions include pine and oak forests on Mount Data rice terraces in Natonin and Maligcong (the latter set in a natural amphitheater); lint springs in Mainit. The Anglican Church on the outskirts of town is a reflection of the area's unusua religious heritage. The style of housing shows definite alpine influences.
